Wind will make up 615MW of this new capacity, which will be spread across four projects. The remainder consists of 35 solar projects representing 257MW and one 500kV water project.
The wind projects to be awarded contracts are:
- Nigig Power Corp 300MW wind farm at Pickerel
- Renewable Energy Business. Niagara Region Wind Farm. 230MW
- UDI Renewables. UDI Ryserse Wind Farm. 10MW
- Windelectric. Amherst Island Wind Project. 75MW
The second round follows on from the first stage of the programme that was launched in 2009 under the Green Energy Act (GEA).
180 Fit contracts were awarded in April last year. This included 48 wind farms with a combined capacity of 1.5GW, about 63% of the 2.4GW that was issued contracts.
The second round announcement, follows Ontario’s decision this month to halt offshore development on Lake Ontario until further scientific study has been made.
