Eneco announces 1.2GW offshore plan for English coast

UK: Eneco has announced its plans to develop an offshore project of up to 1.2GW on England’s south coast.

Eneco was awarded a 279 square mile area of seabed off the Dorset and Hampshire coasts under Round 3, in January. The company has decided on a location to the west of the Isle of Wight.

It believes a wind farm of between 900MW to 1.2GW can be developed in a 76 square mile area. At its closest point the project will be 8.2 miles away from land.

However, there could be opposition to the project, which will be located near Swanage and Bournemouth, both popular tourist destinations. It will also be in view of the South Coast Path, which is popular with walkers.

The development is now subject to a formal consultation process. Eneco will also be holding a series events to inform the public about the wind farm.
