US finalises loan guarantee for Nevada transmission line

UNITED STATES: The US energy department has finalised a $343 million loan guarantee for a transmission line largely intended for renewable energy.

The ON Line project in Nevada

The 500kV One Nevada Transmission Line (ON Line) will run from Ely in northern Nevada to just north of Las Vegas. It will carry 600MW of electricity from resources including wind and solar.

It is the first phase of the Southwest Intertie Project, which will carry 2GW of electricity and connect wind resources in Wyoming and Idaho, to southern California.

The project is owned by utility NV Energy and transmission company LS Power. This is the Department of Energy’s first loan guarantee for a transmission project.
