Subocean, the UK leader in underwater cable-laying for offshore wind, went into administration on Friday. The £10 million deal will see Technip take on 300 employees, land-based assets, and the operations of some contracts in backlog.
In early 2010, Technip launched an operating centre in Aberdeen, north east Scotland, which is where Subocean is based.
In terms of wind projects, Technip has recently been involved in a number of efforts to develop floating offshore wind farms.
Technip was involved in project off the coast of Norway, the world’s first large-scale floating wind turbine.
It is also one of the partners in the Vertiwind floating vertical axis wind turbine project being developed in France.
It is working with Lille-based designer Nénuphar and EDF Energies Nouvelles on the project, which consists of a 90 metres tall direct drive machine mounted on a triangular structure tethered to the seabed.
Technip is responsible for designing the platform, mooring system and connection cable as well as on-site installation.
