The first project to be connected will be , 70km west of the island of Sylt in Northern Germany.
The wind farm is co-owned by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke Munchen and will use 80 Siemens SWT-3.6 120 turbines. Installation is scheduled to begin in 2012 with commissioning set for 2013-2014.
Siemens will work in a consortium with Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian Powerlink to connect the project.
The grid connection is scheduled to be ready for operation by early-2014.
It will use Siemens’ HVDC Plus system, which is required for high voltage cable links covering distances of more than 80 kilometres.
