The development, which is co-owned by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke Munchen, is located 70km west of the Sylt island near Germany’s maritime boundary with Denmark.
It will use 80 Siemens SWT-3.6 120 turbines. Installation is scheduled to begin in 2012 with commissioning set for 2013-2014.
The SWT-3.6 turbine has been referred to as the ‘workhorse’ of the offshore sector and has been used in a number of North Sea projects. It will also be used on the upcoming 468MW Cape Wind project.
The deal comes as Vattenfall, which owns 51% of the DanTysk project, said it would not be taking up an option to extend its 300MW Thanet wind farm off the UK coast. Vattenfall said it was putting plans to add another 147MW to the project on hold.
