China takes grid connected capacity to 31GW

CHINA: China connected 13.99GW of its newly-installed turbines to the grid in 2010 taking its total figure to 31.07GW, according to figures released by the China Electricity Council (CEC).

The number means China has connected three-quarters of its total number of turbines to the grid. Earlier this month, the country said it has raised its overall capacity to 41.8GW.

Li Junfeng, secretary general of Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association (CREIA), said China had installed 16GW in 2010.

In 2011, the Chinese government said it will give substantial support to the wind power sector. It expects to increase the cumulative grid-access installed capacity to 55GW this year, said Zhang Guobao, minister of National Energy Bureau (NEB).
