AMSC Windtec licenses designs to Chinese manufacturer

CHINA: Chinese turbine manufacturer Jingcheng New Energy (JCNE) has signed a licensing deal with American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) for a range of the US company's turbine designs.

AMSC has granted JCNE licenses to manufacture AMSC Windtec 2MW, 3MW and 5MW full conversion wind turbine models and a 3MW SuperGEAR model.

It will also supply electrical control systems and core electrical components for the turbines.

JCNE plans to begin producing 2MW and 3MW full conversion wind turbines in 2011 and the rest of the wind turbines in subsequent years.

AMSC received a $10 million order last week from South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction for turbine electrical components.
