UK: Enercon is planning to open an office in Scotland in the first half of the year, according to the company’s managing director Hans-Dieter Kettwig.

Enercon plans to develop its E-82 turbine over the next two years

Speaking exclusively to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, Kettwig said the company was looking at business opportunities in both Spain and the UK.

In October, Enercon  announced plans to pump €40 million into a component and services complex in Spain.

The investment, which makes up almost a quarter of the company’s scheduled global investments to 2014, is centred around Galicia’s recent 2.3GW tender. Enercon was one of the big winners taking 240MW.

However, Enercon’s UK plans are likely to be different to those of its competitors who are also investing in the country.

GE, Siemens and Gamesa are among those who have announced plans to set up in the UK over the last year. However, they are focused on developing turbines for the UK’s 33GW offshore requirements.

Overall, Kettiwig said Enercon’s ambition would be targeted on the onshore market. He said that between 2011-12 the company would be concentrating on developing its E-82 3MW turbine for low- and medium-speed sites.
