Texas set to host offshore wind turbine

UNITED STATES: Texas looks set to become the first US state to host offshore wind power generation.

The state will see a single 2.75MW turbine begin operation near Galveston Island in the south east of the state towards the end of 2010.

The German American Chamber of Commerce [GACC] has described the turbine as a "precursor" to the 300 MW Galveston Wind Project planned for the same area.

The GACC says areas have already been leased for planned offshore projects totaling 3.5GW of power in Texas.
