Germania Windpark has agreed to buy the machines for the expansion of its Groß-Santersleben Süd wind farm near Magdeburg in central Germany. The wind farm already has eight 1.5MW GE turbines.
The sale includes a "full service agreement" (FSA), introduced by GE at the European Wind Energy Association’s annual conference, EWEC, this year.
The FSA includes all planned maintenance, routine services, preventative maintenance, on-site support and parts support, plus unplanned maintenance such as condition monitoring, life extension and uptower inspection and repair.
GE says it has sold the 2.5MW machine in 19 European countries.
The manufacturer has a factory at Salzbergen in Lower Saxony, and a research centre in Munich.
But GE’s machines comprised just 22MW of the 1.9GW that came online in Germany in 2009. Last year the German manufacturer Enercon accounted for 60% of the country’s installations.
