The company said it would hold a 66 per cent stake in the 140 milion euro wind farm, which will be operational by autumn next year.

Company spokeswoman Mitsue Usami said that the Norwegian government would fund the other third of the costs.

Last week, the Norwegian and UK governments announced that they would cooperate on offshore wind developments.

This work would included encouraging the wind industry to exchange information on the development of offshore wind farms in the North Sea, supporting a feasibility study on developing an interconnection between the two countries and increasing the uptake of renewables in developing countries.
