"The new government is very supportive of renewable energy and would like to give it a free hand to improve the action plan," says Miklos Poos, head of international relations and large projects at the Hungarian economic ministry's energy department.
Poos also notes that the economic crisis, which hit Hungary particularly hard, has complicated efforts to provide many of the forecasts required in the action plan. "We had to recalculate all the numbers every few weeks because of worse and worse news on the economic front," he says.
Poos expects Hungary's action plan will be submitted in the next few months. The country's renewable energy forecast, submitted in December 2009, predicts the country will have 920MW of installed wind capacity by 2020.
