The Arizona Public Service Company (APS) has agreed to buy all output from NextEra’s Perrin Ranch Wind Energy Center, to be located 13 miles north of Williams in Coconino County, Arizona.
The project will comprise 62 1.6MW turbines.
The Arizona Corporation Commission must approve the PPA, and the project must still undergo siting, permitting and interconnection.
NextEra plans to begin construction in 2011 and bring the wind farm online in 2012.
Arizona only has one operational wind installation, Iberdrola’s 63MW Dry Lake wind farm, which supplies utility the Salt River Project. The project was completed last year.
The state’s renewable energy standard requires utilities to derive 15% of electricity sales from renewable sources by 2025.
APS is Arizona’s largest electric utility and is a subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp., which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
