The installations will use up to 309 turbines, which NextEra said would be supplied by either GE or Siemens.
NextEra named the projects as:
- Bluewater: Up to 90 MW, 39 to 60 turbines. Located in Huron East, southeast of Bayfield.
- Goshen: Up to 160 MW, 69 to 106 turbines. Located in South Huron, outside of Grand Bend.
- Jericho: Up to 230 MW, 100 to 153 turbines. Located in the Thedford and Watford areas.
The three wind farms are in addition to two other NextEra projects, which have power purchase agreements signed by the Ontario Power Authority under its feed-in tariff (FIT).
The FIT projects – Summerhaven Wind in Nanticoke and Conestogo Wind Energy Centre in Alma – will be 125MW and 23MW.
NextEra is also planning the Adelaide Wind Energy Center, a 60MW project in Adelaide-Metcalf township.
The company’s wind assets in Canada include the 33.6MW Pubnico Point in Nova Scotia and the 54MW Mount Cooper project in Quebec.
