Siemens takes 49% share in offshore specialist

DENMARK: Siemens has acquired a 49% share in offshore installation specialist A2sea from Dong Energy for €115million.

A2sea, whose main shareholder is still Dong, said it would look to expand following the deal. The company is based in Fredericia, Denmark and has 200 employees.

Dong paid €174 million for A2sea, including debt of €80 million, in 2009. A2sea was founded in 2000 and has led the field in offshore installation shipping. It has installed more than 500 turbines.

Speaking about the deal, Siemens Energy CEO Wolfgang Dehen said the investment was part of the company’s aim to strengthen its share of the offshore market.

He added: "It is our aim to foster the industrialization of offshore wind power. Together with Siemens, A2SEA can build optimized vessels for the installation of offshore wind turbines. The optimization of ships and processes will result in higher efficiency, shorter installation times and enhanced customer value."
