GE uses turbine blade for travelling petition

US: GE is taking a 131ft turbine blade on a tour of the US as part of a marketing campaign to promote the use of renewable energy in the country.

The ‘Capture the Wind' tour starts in Aberdeen, South Dakota today and visits locations in states including Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Texas. It finishes off at “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç 2010 on May 23.

GE said the events aims to educate the public about how its wind turbines are affecting the lives of ordinary people. Visitors will also be invited to sign there names on the turbine blade, which GE says will take the form of a "travelling petition".

Social networking sites, such as and have been used to promote the tour.

Speaking about the campaign Victor Abate, vice-president of GE's renewable energy business said: "The rest of the world is not standing still. China and Europe have already enacted robust, clean energy policies that are driving technology investments and creating real jobs. Sustainable policy works."
