Siemens wins repeat 100MW Ontario contract

CANADA: Siemens has won a contract from RES Americas to supply 43 of its SWT-2.3MW turbines for a 100MW project near Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The contract follows an identical deal between RES Siemens for the Talbot wind energy project in Chatham, Ontario. As well as featuring the same number and type of turbine, both orders feature a five-year maintenance deal.

In terms of winning new business, Siemens could be described as being on something of a roll this month. The RES order follows a 400MW contract from Cape Wind and a 108MW deal from Enova.

Speaking about the RES project Jan Kjaersgaard, vice president and general manager of Siemens Energy's Americas wind business said: "Five wind turbine orders totaling nearly 600 MW received in Canada over the last six months clearly demonstrate the success we’ve experienced.

"Including the two Canadian wind farms commissioned in 2008, Siemens wind turbines have the potential to provide clean power to approximately 240,000 Canadian households."
