Lithuania now relies on public funding for wind, says NIB CEO Johnny Akerholm. The country should consider a unified energy strategy with neighbours Latvia and Estonia that sets out ambitions for wind, he says, adding: "A common initiative like this would attract private investors to all three countries." Wind investment is delayed by insufficient investment infrastructure in Lithuania unrelated to nuclear power, says Akerholm. The Baltics face an energy deficit and must diversify into renewable energy, he says.
