The move followed the announcement made by the previous CEO, Andreas Nauen, that he would be assuming the leadership of German wind turbine suppler Repower, a direct competitor to Siemens Wind.
At Repower, Nauen takes over from Danish national Per Hornung Pedersen, who has led the company since its takeover by Indian wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon.
Hornung Pedersen transferred to Repower from Suzlon where he had headed up the company's international activities from Aarhus, Denmark, where one of the Indian company's European offices is based. Aarhus and the surrounding area is a centre of global wind power expertise. Among several other companies, it hosts Vestas' research and development headquarters.
From the German city of Hamburg, a three hour drive south of Aarhus, Hornung Pedersen now assumes a role as the company's head of strategy and development.
The announcement that Nauen had departed his former place of employment with a day's warning suggests his resignation was a surprise to Siemens management. Likewise, Repower's announcement that Nauen would join the company no later than October 1, 2010 indicates the existence of an unusually short competition clause attached to Nauen's employment at Siemens.
Siemens Wind Power operates with annual revenues of over €2 billion and intends to be at least the third largest wind turbine supplier in 2012, up from the tenth largest today.
