This would mean renewables supplying 50% of electricity - most of it from wind - plus 10% of energy needed for transport and 11% required for heating.
The plan details the actions the government, its agencies and partners must take over the next two years to put in place the infrastructure, supply chain, permitting regime and boosting of the skills needed to deliver the targets. For onshore wind it is also looking for solutions to aviation and radar obstacles to deployment, while for offshore wind it is designing a marine consents process for development in Scottish waters.
Offshore wind, marine energy and renewable heat will now be a key focus, says John Swinney, cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth. "Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise will develop a clear framework for port and land infrastructure to support the manufacturing, construction, and operation of offshore wind, wave and tidal devices," he says.
