The Narpes project, near the town of Narpio in western Finland, will comprise 30 wind turbines of 3 MW to 5 MW, totalling 90 to 150 MW of installed capacity. A decision on the application is expected by October. The project is the latest large-scale wind farm plan to emerge from EPV Tuulivoima, a wholly owned subsidiary of EPV Energia, which also has interests in nuclear, coal and hydro power generation. EPV Tuulivoima has plans for wind farms on 10 offshore and onshore sites in the Ostrobothnia region of western Finland, adding up to more than 1500 MW of wind energy. Several of the wind farms are to be built in partnership with power utilities. The company's development plans hinge on improvements in the ability of Finland's transmission network to incorporate renewable energy. Electricity transmission connections and operational reliability in Ostrobothnia should improve in 2010-2012 following construction by the TSO Fingrid of a new 400kV power transmission line between the towns of Seinajoki and Toby.
