The wind farm will use 14, 1.8 MW turbines from Danish manufacturer Vestas, says BKW FMB communications head Antonio Sommavilla, and should be operational by end-2011.
BKW, which acquired the company through its Italian subsidiary BKW Italia, plans to invest more than €56 million in the project.
The wind farm is expected to produce roughly 68 GWh of electricity each year, the company says, meeting the requirements of about 19,000 families.
The acquisition follows on the heels of BKW’s acquisition in June 2009 of a 33% stake in Fortore Wind. Fortore Wind has a total of 140 MW in operational wind farms in Italy and aims at raising that total to 600 MW by 2016.
