Wind Wire: Plans for nine

Swiss wind developer Groupe E Greenwatt, part of the Greenwatt group, is partnering with the western parishes of Plaffeien and Plasselb to found a wind project company called Schwyberg Energie.

Greenwatt holds 90% and the parishes 5% each. Schwyberg Energie is planning to install nine 2 MW turbines on the Gross Schwyberg heights and is due to lodge a planning application for the SFR 55 million (EUR36.16 million) project soon. It hopes to install two to three units by the end of 2010 and bring all nine machines online by 2012.

The project's location is earmarked for wind development in the Freiburg Canton's regional development plan, giving the permit application a good chance of success, says Greenwatt. Annual electricity output from the project will be 35 GWh, equivalent to the needs of about 9000 households.
