Wolfe Island, owned by Calgary's Canadian Hydro Developers, solidifies Ontario's lead among the provinces by boosting its installed capacity to 1162 MW, making it the first Canadian jurisdiction to pass the 1 GW threshold. West Cape, owned by GDF Suez Energy North America, now stands at 99 MW, with most of its output sold into electricity and renewable energy credit trading markets in the north-eastern US.
Prince Edward Island's wind total is now 152 MW. Fermeuse, owned by Skypower Corp, is now the easternmost wind facility in North America. It brings Newfoundland's wind power capacity to just over 54 MW. Canada has installed 486 MW so far this year, with the commissioning of further wind farms in British Columbia, Alberta and New Brunswick expected to push national wind capacity to 3 GW before the end of the year.
