Ireland go-ahead

Scotland utility ScottishPower was last month granted permission to build 25, 600 kW wind turbines in Ireland at Barnsmore in County Donegal. It is the third wind farm in Donegal to gain consent from the County Council. The 15 MW project already has a power purchase contract under Ireland's Alternative Energy Requirement. The company says it has not yet taken a final decision over the turbine supplier but expects the wind farm to be completed by spring 1997. This will be ScottishPower's first wind farm outside the UK. As well as owning wind farms in Scotland, Wales and England it also has three in Northern Ireland.
