Npower plans to build wind farm in shadow of defunct nuclear plant

Developer npower renewables has unveiled plans to build a wind farm in the shadow of a defunct nuclear power station at Bradwell-on-Sea on the Essex coast. The company stresses its design for up to 26, 2 MW turbines is at a very early stage. The site is arable land owned by a number of farmers and landowners. Vicky Portwain from npower says: "This is one of the few potential sites in the east of England suitable for a scheme of this scale which would contribute significantly towards meeting renewable energy targets for the east of England set by the government." Output would probably feed into overhead power cables from the nuclear plant that closed in 2002.
