Low wind speed prototype gets test run

Such is the demand for wind turbines that can meet strict rules on noise emissions and operate profitably on low wind speed sites, NEG Micon has chosen Germany as the ideal location for installation of its prototype 1.5 MW design. The company introduced the 1.5 MW, with "active stall control" for low wind speed areas, at last month's Husum Windtech trade fair, along with a new 2.5 MW variable speed machine for use offshore. A prototype of the 2.5 MW will be installed in Denmark next year. The company is also part of the Dutch Offshore Wind Energy Converter program to develop a 6 MW offshore turbine (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, October 2000). Germany is a key market for NEG Micon, with 300 MW already sold to German customers this year.
