Kuhrt is a retired German fighter pilot who worked for Tacke Windenergie and Nordex before going solo. JWD was founded in Tokyo in April 2000. Shareholders in the company include the Japanese Steel Company, Torishima, and Mitsui. JWD is to set up its European headquarters in London this year and the company is preparing to go public at the end of 2001, Kuhrt adds. In Japan, JWD has 150 MW of wind development underway, he says.
Japanese in Germany
A newcomer to the European wind scene, Japan Wind Development (JWD), installed its first turbine in Germany last month, an Enron Wind 1.5 MW unit with a with hub height of 85 metres and a 70 metre rotor. It was erected south of Rees, near Wesel in North Rhine Westfalia, reports JWD's European representative, Christoph Kuhrt.
