Leading Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Sinovel is building a new CNY 1 billion ($146.7 million) factory at the Qingshan industrial park in Baotou in China's Inner Mongolia to turn out 1000, 1.5 MW turbines a year and more than 200, 3 MW turbines. The company expects combined annual sales of CNY 5 billion ($733.7 million). By the end of this year, the factory's first stage will produce 500 1.5 MW units and more than 100 of the 3 MW design. Last year, Sinovel installed 1.4 GW in China, or 22.45% of the total 6.2 GW installed overall, passing rival Goldwind to become the country's number one wind turbine supplier. Sinovel has already begun batch production of the 3 MW turbine at its factory in Yancheng, in Jiangsu province, east China and has installed one unit offshore (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, May 2008). According to company boss Han Junliang, the Yancheng factory will largely serve offshore wind farms in Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai city. It is furnishing 30 units to join the one turbine installed so far at Shanghai's Donghai Offshore Wind Farm. By the end of the year, the Yangcheng factory will have produced 400, 1.5 MW turbines and 100, 3 MW units, the company says. Sinovel wants to boost annual production of the 1.5 MW model at Yangcheng to 1000 units and of the 3 MW offshore turbines to 300 units. Some 5 MW turbines are also planned.
