Iberdrola boosts domestic portfolio
In a flurry of activity on its home market, Iberdrola reports a series of additions to its Spanish wind power portfolio. It has inaugurated the final phase of Iberdrola Renovables' second largest wind development in Spain: the 198 MW El Marquesado complex in the Granada province of Andalucía region, using Gamesa turbines. Two regions further north, the company has finalised the acquisition from Gamesa Energía of the 44.2 MW La Torrecilla development in Aragón, with 16.15 MW already online and 28.05 MW on the way. The purchase forms part of a framework deal Iberdrola signed in 2006 to acquire 700 MW of wind capacity from Gamesa's wind project development wing to 2009. On the north-west coast, in the single-province region of Cantabria, Iberdrola has acquired a 49% stake in independent project developer Eólica 2000, operator of the 17.85 MW Cañoneras plant, which it plans to extend by 14.45 MW. Iberdrola Renovables holds an option to raise its stake to 51%.
