Econergy invests in 26 projects across Latin America
Econergy, an investor in clean energy projects with roots in the United States and Brazil, plans to invest $125 million in 26 renewable energy projects across Latin America over the next 18 months. Currently, Econergy is analysing two wind projects out of seven renewable energy projects being studied in Brazil, says Luís Eduardo Alves de Lima of Econergy Brasil. "Where Econergy acts as a shareholder, the idea is to invest at least $10 million per project, with the intention of holding a majority stake," he adds. Specific project details are yet to be revealed. "We cannot say how much of the $125 million will be invested in wind projects at the moment," says De Lima. He concedes that Brazil is a strong wind market and some 40-50% of the fund will be invested in the country. "The regions of the north-east and south of Brazil have the greatest potential for wind generation," he adds. Econergy is traded on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange. It is a project investor and developer and a carbon credit broker. Its consultancy arm was founded in 1994.
