Fifty percent share for one firm in AER program
More than 50% of all contracts under AER VI (above) have been won by a single company. Wind farm developer Saorgus Energy Ltd secured 69% of the large wind contracts with five projects in Kerry and Galway, and it took 100% of the offshore wind contracts comprising two projects off Wicklow and Dublin as part of the Kish consortium in which it owns a controlling stake. Aidan Forde from Saorgus, based in Tralee, Kerry, says the company's success highlights that most AER contracts went to private Irish companies -- not predominantly to utility ESB or its subsidiaries, as had been feared by some in the Irish wind industry.
