Korean renewable energy project developer Unison has entered the manufacturing space with the introduction of a 750 kW wind turbine to be marketed in Korea and the United States. The company's Ji-Yine Ryu says Unison will produce 30 of the model, which employs a permanent magnet generator and has dispensed with a gearbox, by the end of this year, with five satisfying an order from the Korean government and the Korean Atomic and Hydro Generation Company. Unison is in contract negotiations with US utility ATG Energy for next year's output of an expected 100 units, Ryu says. Only one Unison 750 kW unit is in operation, at a test location in Korea. Unison is targeting the US market because it is more receptive to small or medium size units, he says, particularly in rural areas. Unison co-developed Korea's 98 MW Gangwon wind farm of Vestas 2 MW turbines in north-eastern Pyeongchang county. It went online in 2005.
