Nova Scotia Power has wrapped up a series of wind power purchases with a 20-year contract to buy the output of 30 MW to be built on Digby Neck, a narrow peninsula that juts into the Bay of Fundy in the south-west side of the province. The Digby Wind Park, to use 20 GE Energy 1.5 MW turbines, is a joint venture between SkyPower, a Toronto-based renewable energy developer, and Scotian WindFields, a community-owned and operated company that has tapped into taxpayer incentives provided under Nova Scotia's Community Economic Development Investment Fund to raise investment capital. This is a great example of how local communities, community groups and companies can partner with SkyPower and have their own wind projects," says SkyPower CEO Kerry Adler. The Digby wind farm, on leased private land, is scheduled to be operational in late 2009. Nova Scotia Power has announced contracts with seven wind projects totalling 244 MW this year, all winners in a request for proposals issued in 2007.
