Insurance secured for Bard 1 offshore wind farm

Germany's Bard Group, a budding Russian-backed entrant to the offshore wind power development business, has secured a comprehensive insurance package for its planned Bard Offshore 1 wind farm. Bard agreed the policy with a co-insurance group in which leading German industrial insurers are involved, says Bard Engineering's Heiko Ross. The plan includes coverage for operational outages, an arrangement Ross calls unique within the German offshore market. The offshore station, on which installation work is to begin in May, is to be installed 100 kilometres north-west of Borkum in the North Sea. It will comprise 80, 5 MW turbines designed and manufactured by Bard.
