Two British wind farms have changed hands in a deal between Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) and former owner New World Power Corporation of the US. Four Burrows wind farm (4.5 MW) in Cornwall and Dyffryn Brodyn wind farm ((5.5 MW) in Dyfed were both bought outright from the troubled American company. Both sites were developed in 1994 and have just over one year to run on their premium priced NFFO power purchase contracts. From 1998 their output could be sold either to the local public electricity suppliers or be aimed at a new emerging market for green electricity. Ian Mays of RES says the purchases represent a significant expansion of the company's investment in electricity generation from wind energy. "Whilst we will continue to develop, construct and operate wind farms both in the UK and abroad, these purchases demonstrate a strategic movement into the ownership of wind farms and the sale of clean, green electricity."
