WIND POWER IN THE MIDWEST

Boosting the trend of more wind power in the Midwest, a Vestas V27 was due to be installed in late January for an Iowa hospital. The turbine, the second Vestas to be installed in the US outside California, is a turnkey project by Vestas-American Wind Technology Inc. The machine was purchased by a retired banker on behalf of Story County Hospital, says the wind company. It will be sited at a sewage treatment plant in Nevada, Iowa, which will pay the owner, the hospital, for the power. Operation and maintenance will be provided by Schafer Systems in Adair, which recently installed a Vestas at its own facility in Iowa.
