Italian energy group Sorgenia plans to increase its installed domestic and French wind energy capacity to 920 MW in 2012 from a current level of about 100 MW. In its 2008-2012 business plan, Sorgenia foresees its Italian wind capacity rising to 450 MW in 2012, from a current 1.5 MW. It is now constructing a 10 MW wind farm in Castelnuovo di Conza in the central Italian region of Campania, as well as 18 MW and 30 MW projects in the southern Italian region of Apuglia. Sorgenia broke into the French market in December with the acquisition of wind developer and operator Française d'Eoliennes. Aside from 100 MW in operational capacity in France, Sorgenia notes that it has received authorisation for a further 39 MW of projects, all of which are nearing construction. In total, Sorgenia points to project development pipelines amounting to around 1000 MW in both Italy and France. Outside its two main markets, the company is also aiming to grow in the emerging market of Romania, where it has a total of 340 MW of projects under development.
