NFFO-4 process grinds on

June saw another deadline in the timetable of the latest round of support for renewables under the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation (NFFO-4). Generators bidding for contracts should by now have submitted draft contract schedules, technical information and their fee. This is just one of many milestones they have to pass in the long slow haul towards gaining a prized NFFO contract. The process began in November 1995 when Junior Energy Minister Richard Page outlined details of some 400-500 MW of contracts on offer in NFFO-4. However, bidders will not learn whether they have been successful until March 1997, with NFFO-4 contracts active from May 1997. These dates, however, are liable to slip if past experience is repeated -- particularly with the prospect of a British general election in the offing
