Utgrunden sold to private investor -- Danish clothing magnate buys offshore

The 10 MW offshore project at Utgrunden, Sweden, has been sold to a private Danish company for more than DKK 100 million (EUR 13.4 million). The facility, developed by Enron Wind of the US, was sold to St Frederikslund Group through its Swedish subsidiary STF Power AB, reports Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten.

"It is an unusually good deal," says Klaus Helmersen, owner of St Frederisklund Group, who is estimated to be the world's largest private owner of wind projects, worth a total of DKK 750 million. "It is almost like buying a fairly good bond -- and then it's good for the environment as well." Helmersen is known in Denmark as a clothing tycoon through the brand Carli Gry, of which he is part owner, as well as his many properties that include the national Danish radio and television buildings.

Utgrunden, with seven 1.5 MW turbines made by Enron's German facility, is located in Kalmar Strait, eight kilometres from the southern tip of Öland island (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, January 2001). Sweden's minister of industrial affairs, Björn Rosengren, christened the project in a floating ceremony in March.
