In a huge wind station order, turnkey contracts for 21 projects in Valencia totalling 793 MW have gone to Spanish industrial group Acciona. The EUR 850 million deal comes from developer Energías Renovables Mediterráneas (RENOMAR), which is half owned by Acciona. The other half belongs to Med Wind, a consortium of national and regional firms and banks. Renomar won the 793 MW wind development concession for Valencia in 2002. It is the largest of five successful bids to develop a total of 2500 MW across Spain's easternmost region. Acciona affiliate, Energía Hidroeléctrica de Navarra (EHN), will build all 21 projects, including the necessary grid infrastructure, using 1.5 MW turbines from its turbine division, Ingetur, to power 679 MW, or 86% of the total. The remaining 114 MW will use 850 kW machines from Gamesa Eólica. The bulk of the Ingetur turbines will be turned out at a new facility under construction in the Valencia district of Vall D'Uxó. EHN has already started building three of the projects, totalling 125 MW, and expects to start on a further 100 MW before the end of the year. It schedules completion of all 21 developments for end-year 2007. Acciona also owns 50% of another Valencia concession winner, Guadalaviar, which is pending the go-ahead on 608 MW for different sites in the region. Acciona formed Guadalaviar with engineering group Elecnor before it took over EHN last year. The joint venture is long since committed to using turbine technology from Germany's Enercon, which is awaiting the go-ahead to build a manufacturing facility in the region.
