Standard offer contracts for two phase 18 MW wind project
Calgary-based Canadian Hydro Developers has been awarded two 20-year standard offer power purchase contracts from the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) for 18 MW of electricity from two phases of the Royal Road Wind Project, located about one kilometre off the shores of Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County. The anticipated capital cost of the projects, which are expected online in August 2010, is C$40 million. The company acquired Royal Road when it bought Vector Wind Energy in December 2006. Canadian Hydro currently has one 67.7 MW project operating in Ontario and has purchase contracts for the 197.8 MW Wolfe Island and the 132 Melancthon II projects. Under its program for standard price contracts, The Ontario Power Authority has so far picked 48 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 430.7 MW. By the end of August, which is the program's latest reporting period, the OPA had signed a total of 140 fixed-price contracts with small-scale renewable energy producers of all kinds for an overall total capacity of 595 MW and was reviewing another 104 applications.
