Survey reveals electricity bill payers support wind
A UK-wide opinion poll finds 74% of electricity bill payers support increasing the use of wind power, with only 6% opposed. The survey, commissioned by the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA), also reveals that 74% approve the government's aim to generate 20% of electricity from renewables by 2020, a central plank of its energy policy. BWEA released the findings of the survey, conducted by market researchers Ipsos, to coincide with the government's announcement of an expansion in offshore wind (page 22). Ipsos polled 2624 UK household bill payers in June. Their findings agree with the results of previous opinion polls which demonstrate consistently high support for wind power. A summary of 42 surveys conducted between 1990 and 2002 shows that an average 77% of the British public favour wind energy, with just 9% against.
