Consent for Liverpool turbines
The UK government has given its consent to the installation of 30 wind turbines on Burbo Bank in Liverpool Bay in north-west England, near the entrance to the River Mersey and some six kilometres from Crosby. They are being developed by Seascape Energy, a subsidiary of EnXco, a wind project developer based in the US but owned by French national utility EDF. EnXco bought out the interests in Burbo Bank held by Wind Prospect, a UK company and one of the initial partners in Seascape. Wind Prospect continues as development consultant to the project. Burbo offshore wind farm is the eighth 30-turbine site to be consented out of 17 projects being progressed under the UK's first round of offshore wind development. The 90 MW plant will cost more than £100 million. Work is expected to start on construction in 2005.
