The impact of staff cuts at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will be minimal on the National Wind Technology Centre, says NREL's Bob Noun. Cuts may reach 200 this month, with an estimated 175 voluntary job cut. Involuntary lay-offs may bring the total to some 200. None of the involuntary firings are at the wind centre, says Noun. In fiscal year 1995, NREL's operating funding was some $237 million. For the fiscal year 1996, NREL funding may be as low as $173 million -- a cut of more than 25%.
