ScottishPower proposes third large scale wind farm

ScottishPower has unveiled plans for a third large-scale wind farm in Scotland, at Harestanes and Ae forest near Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway. The site could accommodate up to 180 wind turbines and generate enough electricity to power 250,000 homes. If approved, the wind farm could meet a third of Scotland's renewable energy target of 18% by 2010. The project, says ScottishPower, will be of a similar scale -- if not larger -- than its planned Whitelee Forest wind farm on Eaglesham Moor south of Glasgow, comprising 140 turbines with a capacity of 240 MW. Its third large scale project is at Black Law near Forth in South Lanarkshire, which would have 67 turbines totalling 134 MW. ScottishPower requested site permits from the Scottish Executive for both projects last year. The company plans to install 1000 MW of wind power by 2010.
