Spain's three leading wind turbine suppliers are all upgrading their product lines. Ecotècnia has installed its first 2 MW prototype -- its most powerful machine to date -- at the Loma Viso site in Albacete province, Castile-La Mancha. The company says it already has orders for 40 of the new machines in 2008, all for locations outside Spain. The 2 MW unit is an upgrade of its 1.67 MW machine, 400 of which are now turning in Spain, France and Portugal. Orders for a further 250, 1.67 MW turbines have been secured. Meanwhile, an Ecotècnia 3 MW turbine is almost fully developed and a prototype should be installed by the end of the year, says the company. Acciona “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's 3 MW prototype is already undergoing field tests. The company plans to use the first batch of the new machine to repower wind stations in Navarra currently consisting of 500 kW turbines. Meanwhile, Gamesa Eólica says its first 4.5 MW turbine, with a rotor span of 129 metres, will be installed next year. It has applied to site the machine in the district of Cabezo Negro in Aragón region.
