Over the next two and a half years, 200 HSW 250 kW turbines will be built by the Chinese partner, "A small family concern with 45,000 employees," quips Udo Postmeyer from HSW of the enormous First Tractor concern. The co-operation contract was signed in January, but the Chinese government did not give its blessing to the scheme until the end of April. The contract became effective from May 1.
At the moment representatives from the Chinese company are being trained at HSW's facilities in Husum, while HSW employees will spend some time at First Tractor from this month. Initially, ten 250 kW machines will be delivered from Husum with support from the German Eldorado programme for assisting renewable energy in developing countries. The site for the ten machines has not yet been decided upon.
Following this project, around 60 HSW wind turbines will be largely built in China in 1995. Several wind plant projects are in the pipeline, one of which is on the island of Heinan, with the other planned for Mongolia. First Tractor is responsible for all HSW marketing activities in China.
In India, too, HSW's co-operation with TTG of Madras is taking shape. TTG took delivery of 12, 250 kW HSW machines earlier this year. Eight have been installed in southern India, at Muppandal in Tamil Nadu and four in the state of Gujarat in the north west. Under the co-operation agreement, TTG expects to partially produce and assemble 30, HSW 250 kW turbines in Madras before the end of the year. TTG is responsible for the marketing.
Ten 30 kW HSW machines will arrive in Russia, delivered to Sovena, a company in Saratov, by the end of September. The co-operation with Sovena will be slower in getting off the ground because of the difficulties of setting up businesses in Russia at the moment.
