GE raises production capacity at German factory
GE Energy claims that new automation at its German wind turbine factory can increase production capacity by 30% and improve efficiency to enable a 40% reduction in inventories. In addition, a key feature of the new turbine moving line, "a 42 metre rail system on which the turbines are continuously moved during production," is its ability to "detect abnormalities in wind turbine assembly and halt the manufacturing process until the issues are resolved." The system was first applied to hub production before being introduced to the machine head line. It has been in operation since January.
